What makes a DVD player to freeze while playing a DVD?

I have an APEX DVD Player.
While watching a movie, the picture freezes.
It only would happen once in a while before.
Now it happens very often, to the point where we have to quit watching the movie.
I am pretty sure that it is dirty, but which part would I clean?
Also, what chemical is recommended to use for cleaning it?
