Mend Ford Escort Brakes Pedal

brakes slow to work after changing front pads?

Changed the front pads on my '97 ford escort and now the car only stops when the pedal is pressed to the floor? How do I correct this???

This is normal with a eot of new brake pads ,should be ok in a few days, if not bleed brakes.
