i have a ford escort 1.8 td 1997 r reg. and i need to know the timing setts?

u dont say if u have had the head rebuilt or not...as this will need to be done(bent valves etc)...there are 2 belts small one 4 pump (inner belt) long one 4 cam....if u dont have a timing kit u will have to set TDC b4 u put head on by winding crank clockwise till no1 piston comes to top...then mark crank pulley with paint or tippex....use 8mm bolts 4 pump pulley and cam pulley (they screw thru holes in pulleys into head and pump body...2 on the pump...one on the cam..3 altogether....put small belt on first keeping belt taut on opposite side to tensioner ....spring loaded so will tension itself...then fit outer beltand tension...making sure all bolts go in easily and crank pulley marks line up....lock tensioners and wind engine clockwise a few turns by hand ...check all marks line up and bolts go back in...then retension belts...cross ur fingers and try starting..good luck
