many thanks Naz worked like a charm took the silver part that sticks out from the back of the machine and seen the heating elements inside right above them was 3 black discs one which had a hole in it, I then used a needle to poke into it and heard a clicking sound, i then assembled everything back and fingers crossed pressed the ON button and its all working again, I now have a working Dryer again :D great stuff very happy

Took my daughters machine heater element panel off and reset the thermostat trip with a pin as suggested and bingo all now well.Difficult to get the top off but with a good thump to the rear it came away.

Thanks for this solution. Perfect. Am not massively DIY minded but don't like having to pay for something I can do myself...especially for something like this! Thank you Naz.

FIRSTLY, ALWAYS DISCONNECT THE POWER SUPPLY!!!I tried resetting by pushing a pin into the left black disc above the heater elements but m/c still dead. After tracing electrical circuit I removed the right hand panel where all the electrics run(right hand side when looking at the m/c from the front)and found a white plastic connector had come apart, plugged back together and dryer back working. Another Hotpoint cheap part!!!! these type of plugs should not be able to vibrate loose!!!

I CANNOT BELIEVE Hotpoint!!! They are robbing people blind and allowing non hotpoint engineers to extort money from joe public. I was just about to spend £250 on there latest model when i stumbled on 'How to mend.com' and followed the above solution. Thank-you How to mend it . Your on my favorite list from now on!

Hi, we had similar problem with no heat and tried the pin push method - fantastic! It works! Thank you sooo much! One happy lady! We took the large silver back panel off and then removed the two screws holding the heating element and pushed a pin into the left black disc, it clicked and then screwed back together and hey presto, working again! Thanks a million!

this method worked for me too. other dryers have a trip switch on the outside of the machine. hotpoint want you to pay their engineer £100 to spend 10mins resetting your very well hidden trip switch. what a ripoff

Remove the back silver panel which is sticking out the back with the heater elements in it. above the elements are to black small discs, behind the left round disk is a tiny pin hole, push a pin into this until it clicks. This will solve the problem.
