Mend Hotpoint Ctd00 Dryer

CTD00 Hotpoint tumble dryer trips circuit breaker?

Hi

I have a CTD00 which was working well until yesterday.
Now when we connect it to the power socket, it trips the circuit straight away when pressing the start button.

I have tried different sockets, changed the fuse, but no luck.

Any help is much appreciated

Thanks

The ctd00 has a problem with creapage across the mica sheets which get contaminated with dust and water over time in my opinion it is a design flaw which they have corrected on later models by cutting away the effected area but this will eventually lead to the element falling down and shorting out again

Oh I forgot to check the pump just take off the plastic pipe at the top where it goes into the water collecter and it should be pumping water out.

Also it may be that the pump is not at its best or clogged up and so water is backing up, clean pump, foat switch or replace pump. Located at the back at the bottom at the end of the two pipes.

I have the same problem, have cleaned condenser again and again, taken off back housing to fan and heater, dried with hair dryer and replaced all. Turned on again, works for about an hour then same problem comes again with water in the housing. Fan & Heaters all appear to be working, airways clear etc.. But problem persists. Can anyone help???

Thanks this answer is a god send. I thought i was gonna have to call an engineer out to solve the problem.

This has been the worst 2 months of my life and then to top it off my dryer started tripping my circuits. My son has very bad allergies and I have to wash all beddings once a week. Without a dryer, his bedspread/duvet takes 4 days to dry.

I spent 20 minutes with a hairdryer and the problem is solved. We have snow out the wazoo, wet clothing everywhere...you get the picture. This advice just saved me 250 Euro/$300 US in Ireland. At Christmas. I'm about to cry. Thank you so much.

Thank you, this is awesome advice! My wife was ready to throw it out, but 20 minutes later it's sorted! Brilliant.

As soon as I started reading this solution I remembered that it was the remedy used by the Hotpoint engineer sent around by the insurance company last time this happened to our machine. I also remember him telling me that it was one of the most common faults with this model of condensing-type dryer.

Anyway, I've just taken-off the cover hiding the fan and heater elements and dried everything off using my better half's hairdryer (just as Baz suggests), reassembled it all, and now it is working like a good 'un. Yay !. So that's a service engineer's callout charge saved at the least, and at the most five hundred quid saved for a new drier just before Christmas.

One thing -- the cover wasn't full of water but there was definitely a good couple of desertspoonfulls; enough for the spinning fan to spray copiously over the heater elements and cause the machine to trip the circuit-breaker in the fuse box when it started the hot-air cycle.

Thanks a lot for the fix, Baz.

This answer saved me at least £100 in a service call plus countless hours on the phone trying to arrange a service appointment - waiting around at the house all day for the technician! Thank you!

I applied the solution above (rinse the condenser unit, remove the cover for the heating element and let it dry) and the dryer is once again working perfectly.

Can't thank you enough!

ive just found this info

its worked for me

This happened to me.

Your condenser unit on the front bottom left corner may be clogged up and causing water to back up around the fan and heating element behind the rear panel.
Take condenser unit out and give it a good clean removing as much fluff as possible.

If the heating element senses damp on it, then it will trip the electric.
The back panel which is at 45 degree angle on back. I took this off and sure enough there was water in there.
Wipe away all water and use an ever so slightly damp cloth to remove as much dust stuck to the metal as possible.
I used a hair dryer for about ten minutes fanning over the heating element and circular fan. Don't rush this. Take your time to make sure all signs of damp have been removed from heating element before putting the back panel back on.
After carrying out the above my machine worked fine and no longered trip electric.
It is a pain, but to prevent this problem happening I suggest cleaning condenser unit about once a week if you have alot of washing. Empty water panel after every two loads, maximum.

Good luck
