To replace the brushes with the motor in place requires a tool. Alternatively, Isolate the power and remove the two retaining bolts to remove the motor. Once on the work bench, use long nosed pliers to pinch the retaining hook closed on the end of the brush, this will now slide out of the motor casing. If using genuine components, the new brushes will be delivered with the carbon locked in the cassette. To activate these, pull the retaining pin away (not out) from the cassette. It is probebly a good idea to ask your supplier how to do this. Once the carbon has been released, refitting is a reversal of this proceedure. Always check that the new brush is not causing excessive sparking when the motor is operated under load at full speed. To do this you will need to test with the lid off the machine. Followed carefully this will allow you to change these brushes but unless you are a qualified electrician and employ all of the safety measures your training has taught you, then I would strongly recommend that you do not do this yourself.
