We have a baxi gas living wonderflame fire , it is 5 years old It has always been serviced and the coals hoovered, we get black soot on the room walls and windows Why?
turn it off, don't use it until it has been properly serviced and spillage tests carried out

dont mean to scare u but that sounds like u r getting spillage back into ure room what that means is there is a possibilty of carbon monoxide there so my advice would be stop using your fire and get it checked
