Mend Works Turned Stops

How can I make my stereo work?

My car stereo only works once the ignition has been turned on and then turned off again, without removing the key. If the key is pulled out or the ignition turned on again the stereo stops working.
I've taken the stereo out and it works fine in my other car. The vehicle is a VW caravelle. Any Ideas?
