Acorn well done for helping, just one comment, the Scantronic 9800 dosent have any fuses, they are the electronic resettable type. Another thing, The NVM chips has a life span of about 15-20 years ish, so down-powering may lose the programming set up of the panel

Hello Acorn
Sorry for double post.
Can you tell me how to remove cover from 9800 keypad, 9827 is easy but cannot see any clips on old keypad.
Thanks again for help.

Hello Acorn
I have the engineers code. Can I use this so the alarm outside remains silent.
Thanks for your assistance.

Outside will main silent IF ALL the power at the control panel is removed ie Mains & battery - there is another battery in the box outside, if it sounds with power removed it's just doing what it is designed to do.

Remove the 12v when the panel is open as I suggested.

I've now seen a drawing of part of the circuit board of your panel, it looks as though the 12v(+) & 0v(-) terminals are directly below the fuse to the right of the tamper switch/spring.

Entering the Engineer code will allow access to the control panel for programming etc, it will not 'switch off' the outside box.

"My keypad is marked 9800 and I am replacing with a 9827 keypad."

As I said before, 9800 is the Control Panel number/type, 9827 is the Keypad number/type that goes with the 9800 Control Panel.

"9800" is the overall name for what you have.

As an alarm engineer I would/wouldn't turn off the power to do this change, depends on the circumstances and my physical access to the Keypad - the choice is yours.

Remember, don't touch any of the wires together if you do it live, you'll blow the keypad fuse in the panel - best to power down both mains and remove battery in the panel.

Your programming will not be lost by powering down, there is a Non-Volatile Memory (NVM) chip that retains the programming.

Suggest you power down mains and battery (outside box should sound, don't worry about it) remove and replace the keypad, wire for wire, don't get it wrong.

Power up battery and mains, close lid of control panel then enter your code once/twice, can't remember.

Good luck, post again, I'll be around all day

Hello Nick
Do I have to switch the power off and is there a correct proceedure.

Kevin

Write down the colours on the reverse, ov is normally black 12v is normally red, the other two colours will vary from engineer to engineer,
Do Not short out the wires when changing,
Plus if the keypad is the only one on the system, dip switch 1 must be on, this addresses the keypad.

The 9827 IS the Keypad for the 9800 Control panel
