Mend Singer 185J Machine Sewing

Singer 185J stitch length?

Hi! the stitch regulator on my machine keeps moving up and down when I am sewing using my machine Singer 185j. I did try to tighten the stitch regulator but it just starts sliding up and down as soon as I start stitching on it. Is there any way that I could fix the problem myself, without taking the machine to the service center? Please, advise.

Where the balance wheel is you will find a hole just below, you can tighten the screw on the stitch length lever, you will see the screw on the inside if you look through the hole.
