Mend Singer Sewing Machine Motor

Why does a sewing machine motor overheat?

I`ve just bought a Singer 222k Featherweight from a charity shop. The owner wrote a label saying `It works perfectly` and for about half an hour it did, but then it started slowing down and I stopped sewing. The motor was hot to the touch and seemed to still be `purring`without me pressing the pedal, so I unplugged it. I`ve read some articles, but am not sure whether the needle shaft needs oil, or the motor, or could it be a pedal problem? Any ideas or advice will be very welcome! Thank you.

when a motor get hot to the touch it mean that its bushes is running dry ,you can try and oil shaft where it dissapear into casing leave for hour or so to ensure oil penetrate and try again only other way is strip motor clean bushes and shaft and hope windings are still ok,lubricate with thin white oil,if you can leave bushes in oil overnite if the motor run without pressing pedal it means that noise surpressor inside pedal is damaged ,take it out and throw away
