my peugeot 307 o5 plate makes a slight popping noise when i rev engine ?

hello when my wife starts engine it starts ok but i was standing next to car and as it started there was a pop noise then it reved normally and as she revved engine you can hear a popping noise each time it is revved im wondering could this be due to the freezing weather we are having thankyou very much
