How can I remove my VW golf car radio, type beta, registered 1997?

I want to replace my radio with a standard modern one, but there do not appear to be any pin holes or slots to put keys in. It may be possible to unscrew the section holding the radio completely, but this seems overkill. Any hints/tips gratefully received. The radio is flush with the dashboard around it.
