How to change an electrical socket?

There is a floor lamp that seems to have a short in it. When we try to turn the switch on, the light flickers several times until it finally stays on. I'm not sure if the socket needs to be changed or it needs re-wiring.

try another socket first.if problem still occcurs it will be your fitting .if you are not competent enough to changs a socket get an electrician or some who is compedent if the socket is faulty, electric can kill!
