Mend Craftsman 917-258662 Lawn Mower Engine Wiring

wiring issue - craftsman rider 917-258662?

I swapped a B&S twin to a different frame. I used the wiring harness from the donor mower, so everything was simply plug in.

The engine does run, but it only starts AFTER I release the key. Even though it did have spark while cranking with the plugs out.

Also, when I turn the key to the position for the lights to come on, the lights do go on, but the motor dies as if you turned off the switch.

I have not seen any damage to the wiring harness, the fuse is good, the ammeter reads good charge, the lamps are bright.
