Fix my Mico DVD player?

Can anyone suggest how I can fix my little used MICO model espejo R311i DVD player which knows there is a DVD there but constantly says it is reading without playing and / or then decides there is "no disc". It does occasionally work, which is even more baffling. Any ideas gratefully received.
