Hotpoint CTD00 - how to get the top off?

My dad has a Hotpoint CTD00. Motor is going and heater is heating but drum does not turn round. Sounds like the belt then, thought I. I'll have a look - can't be too difficult to change if it is the belt. But I can't even get the top off the dryer to have a look! Unscrewed the two screws at the back but the front edge remains fixed and I can't work out how it is supposed to budge. I don't really want to force it, either.

cheers for any help

take the two screws out of the back, place towel on front of lid and tap with a hammer left side right side and middle, top will release. If you are changing an element the side panel needs to come off as well

Thank you sooo much - these posts have just saved me over £200!!! My dryer is now hot again - who would have known it was as simple as that to reset and found the site with my first question. Now in my favourites - Thank you

Answer to Dryer only Blowing cold air, Simple repair, Remove the plate off the back, the onle that looks a bit like a banjo (Bottom left), About 8 screws i think, Ease away from the machine and then remove the 2 screws holding the element in place on the back of this plate, the thermostat is there, On top of the element casing there are 2 connectors, One of them has a little pin hole in it, Push a needle in there gently Until you hear a click, This resets the thermostat, and brings back the hot air. Put it back together and you should be good to go.

Once you have undone those two screws the top can (with a bit of a wiggle) be slid backwatrds about 1/2 inch and lifts clear.

I have just had the same problem. Used this site to get the answer. Yes, undo two screws at the rear then 'firmly' push it from front to back. Does work. Eventually. Do not do wot I did and tried to lift the top first. All I did was break the two clips on the middle edge inside by doing that.

hi also was stumped as to how to get top off is as previous bloke said (jamie t) but may require a few good solid pushes from front to back as the top can be tight.

I have tried on three occassions to get the lid of my CTD00 to no avail. Being an eternal optimist I thought someone must have posted this on the web. Took me twenty minutes to phrase the problem to get your post - hey presto. And the funny thing is, my tumble knew I had discovered its secret. When I knew what I was up against, it popped first time - Power Of The WEB !! THANKS GUYS
