If you disconnect the battery will it reset?

If you disconnect the battery of a Renault Megane Scenic Diesel 1.9 will it reset the whole car? Display went blank in May. Ran out of diesel and battery went dead trying to restart after bleeding a bit. Got it started by using brake pedal only. Today, the electronic locking system made a continuous noise and could not start the car. Disconnected battery to stop noise. Now dead. What next? Do not know what is causing all these things in the car. I noticed that the light switch was on bright but could this have happened by pressing the unlock button and the lock button a couple of times have confused the issue this morning and it went into the memory? When I tried to start it this afternoon the wipers were the only thing that would move a bit and you could hear a tick tick sound. I thought battery?
