Dishwasher - no water?

Zanussi dishwasher DW 908 doesn't load any water.
If I add water with a jug at appropriate points in cycle everything else works fine.
The hose and the hose connector appear ok.
Where is the level sensor and how does it work?
How do I decide whether the sensor or the inlet valve is to blame please ?
