Mend Kenmore Ultra Wash III Dishwasher Repair Timer

I have a Kenmore Ultra Wash III and the timer sticks?

My dishwasher will "hang up" on the light rinse and the quick rinse cycles. I have to nudge it past these two spots and then it runs fine. My husband ordered a timer to replace it but now we can't seem to get the two top corner screws out of the inside cover. Is this how we replace the timer? If so what is the secret to getting those two screws out.
