How can I force a web page to refresh using Internet Explorer 6?

Sometimes when I download a web page there are items on the page which are obviously date specific and out of date. Why doesn't the browser download the current page? Can I force it to look again? (The Refresh Button doesn't seem to be enough.)

Shift and F5 (or hold down Shift while clicking the refresh button) are all you need. Everything else is overkill, and will cause all your downloads to take a lot longer. Cacheing is your friend.

The following web page explains why cacheing is good, how to write cache friendly web pages, and how to use your browsers cache without breaking anything:

You can force a browser refresh by pressing F5. This will reload the web page from the site. Using the browser refresh button may only revisit the browser cache and pull out the old data. It also worth clearing cookies, temprary internet files and browser history by right-clicking Internet explorer and selecting properties once you have finished a web session.

you might want to download a freeware program called window washer that deletes all your temp internet files and cookies and so forth.

That should do the job!!
If you cant find it , send me an e mail and ill send it to you!!

Hi Julie
To fix this problem you need to do the following:
1) Load up Internet Explorer 6
2) Click on the Tools menu button at the top of the screen
3) Choose 'Internet Options' from the drop down box (this will bring up the Options dialogue box
4) Under the General Tab there is a section labelled Temporary Internet Files click the 'Settings' Button
5) This will bring up the Settings menu box, with four options for browser refreshing.
6) Simply click on the 'Every visit to a page' option

That should sort it out
