Mend Panasonic KX-TG7230E Phone Allow Message

My Panasonic KX-TG7230E thinks its mailbox is full?

My phone (2 months old) will not allow anyone to leave a message, instead it tells them "sorry, this mailbox is full." There are no messages there and it's been set up as per the manual. It did allow messages to be left until quite recently but they've all been erased. Any advice or should I just take it back?
