My boiler has no thermostat connected. This is surely wrong?

I have just rented a house and found that there is no central heating thermostat connected. The landlord assures me that I can regulate the room tempurature using the water temp disl on the boiler, but i have the very strong feeling that he doesn't know what he is talking about.

Any form of central heating boiler must be connected to a room thermostat, surely?

As I understand it, the dial on the boiler (Worcester 24i RSF combi) just regulates the temperature that it heats the water to before pumping it around the radiators. Or is it just the water tempurature to the taps? either way it can't control the central heating.

Can someone, preferably with some evidence, please let me know if I'm right or wrong.

Many thanks,

Martin

Thanks,

Yes, I don't remember seeing any TRVs, but then I was concentrating all my searching for a room thermostat. I think that I would have noticed had they been there though. I've asked the letting agent to get their registered Gorgi man to give his opinion...

If you are in the UK contact the planning department of your local council and ask their advice - I think a thermostat is a requirement of Part L of the building regulations - much focus is given these days to the efficiency of power consumption in properties and the reduction of emissions - the council will be sure to take an interest and advise you how best to continue... Without a room stat to tell the boiler to shut down it will cost you a lot - even with TRVs the boiler will continue to pump heated water around the system for no purpose.

You aren't really required to have a room stat, but I'd certainly want one...you can get by if the rads have TRV's fitted and thats usually what you find. Setting the boiler temp down to make things comfy isn't the way to do it. There will be provision for a thermostat on the boilers PCB, I reckon.
