dishwasher wont drain?

the commonest solution to this seems to be to tilt the dishwasher 45 degrees to free up a overfill switch, be warned this will pour water all over your floor, i've also found that there is a chamber on the drain that leads to the a chamber connected to the salt holder (for mixing?) this can get blocked,no idea how to remove this to clean but if you empty the drain of water and pour in nearly boiling water it washes this area out.
