Take it to a specialist. Specialist tools are required. A chainsaw is dangerous enough without heath robinson fixes..!

I have just looked at my chain and assume it's a bit like shortening a bicycle chain:- remove rivets and links and rejoin. However I think shortening the chainsaw chain is a bit more sophisticated and wouldn't try it myself until I had seen it done and had the right tools to deal with the rivets.
