ford mondeo automatic gearbox?

i was driving my mondeo last night i set of from a junction and it sounded a bit like the clutch slipping but it is an automatic
so a little further down the road the rev's shot up again without the car speeding up
so i pulled into a gate way to turn round and go home
i went to put it into reverse but the car still went forward
then the button to move the gear shift would not go in so couldn't select any gear
rang breakdown they came and the car would not go backwards even being towed it is like it is stuck in drive even though you can move the shift
anyone got any idea's remember it is automatic
