Another thought, Is your appliance frost free? If it is then the auto defrost function may not be working. Try turning it off for 48 hours and then restarting.

If you can't hear the compressor running it will be the thermostat, if the compressor is running then it will be a system fault. The first option is relatively cheap, the second is'nt.
