my transit van goes into 'safe mode' when driving?

Transit Connect 2004
when i am driving the van glow plug light will flash on and off and the van will lose power as if the turbo is not working , i will have to then switch the engine off then on whilst i am driving on the road, i could do this every mile or every 5 miles depending on how much i power the throttle.
