Mend Laguna Start Pressed Immobiliser

Why wont myRenault Laguna (53 plate) start ?

I have just got into the car put the card in the slot and pressed start but nothing happens. Immobiliser light on dash is not going out. Have checked all the fuses and they're ok , radio, lights etc working. Any ideas please?
