I changed the battery on my Ford Focus key fob but now it wont work??

I changed the battery on my 1999 Ford Focus before it went flat and now it wont work.

I looked on other websites and saw that i needed to reprogram the fob by turning the key 4 times from 0 - 2 then it bongs, then it said to press a button on the fob and i should here a chime which means its programmed.

I have tried this but there is no 2nd chime?? I guess this means that there is a problem with the fob??

any ideas would be much apreciated :)

Are you removing the key from the ignition before pushing the button on the key?

Thanks for the fast reply Steray :)

i have my own cd player in there now but cant hear anything but the bong on the 4th turn, the fob just doesnt seem to want to work at all. Its really weird cos it was working fine before i changed the battery. I even tried putting the old battery back in but nothing
