my sony rdr hxd 560 turn on and turn off is it the hard drive probs?

There isn't 'an answer' to this problem, as such; it can't be fixed. The cause is due to Sony's cost-cutting in the area of R&D on virtually ALL of it's products. The 'thinking' behind this is that those niche products which were the staple on which Sony built its reputation are now a distant memory. Competition is so stiff in these consumer-electrical markets that corners have had to be cut because the returns no longer justify sufficient investment in quality & reliability. The single best exception to this taudy state of affairs appears to be their gamestations which have been alone in generating handsome profits.

Mine too. Was fine at lunch time but by 2 o'clock it keeps switching on, shows 'welcome' then switches off again. Noticed there were people with the same fault about a year ago and the solution was going into the 'easy setup' on page 101 of the manual but this isn't working on mine. Live TV appears for about a second then freezes and the unit switches off again! Pressing 'System Menu' doesn't do anything. The previous people said it was a faulty firmware update from the bbc. It seems funny that both machines have developed the same fault on the same day. I live in Devon, where are you?
