Mend Water Washer Inside

how can i stop the water running over the overflow pipe?

I have just changed the washer inside the assembly by the ballcock arm and now the the arm needs to be at a higher angle than before for the water to stop running into the overflow, how can I adjust the height of the arm??

The type 1 valves are simply bent over your knee - the type 2 valves have a float that is adjustable on the stem.
