Mend Qualcast Trojan 16 Mower Start Petrol

mower won't prime?

i have a Qualcast trojan 16 that just wont prime . When i get it to start by pouring petrol down the air intake it runs for few seconds and then stops and I can pull away and then the cord snaps.
I've pulled it all apart and put it back together, but it just won't prime. checked the plastic primer thing for holes, and all is good and intact.

Replace the diaphragm and gasket as a set that sits between the carburettor and the petrol tank and normal service will be resumed. The diaphragm sits against the tank, with the gasket next to the carb.
