overflow loft tank?

Hi my loft tank keeps filling up, i replace the ball valve and that working fine but it still fills up slowly. I think its coming from the 2 pipes at the bottm of the tank, one i presume is the outlet pipe for hot water but i do not know what the other pipe for? Could it be water coming back from the central heating system as i have a conventional boiler? please can anyone help?

have you changed any taps latley or is the shower not turning off fully, chenk other tanks in the loft it might be over flowing back into the tank

In my loft there only 1 large black tank, i do have a conventional boiler system, so would the smaller tank be in the boiler system. Also within the house i cant seem to find a copper cylinder may thiis be in the boiler too, cos it is a big free standing boiler on the ground floor like the size of a washing washing. With the expansion pipe, there is a grey plastic pipe standing outside the tank but i dont know what this for? Its neither in the tank just sat next to it facing up , should this pipe be in the tank? please can anyone help?

There should be 2 tanks in the loft - one small one for the central heating system (the flow and expansion tank) and one large one for the domestic hot water supply. One outlet at the bottom feeds the copper cylinder with cold water so that it can be heated, the other one provides gravity cold water for a shower or similar. There should also be a pipe curving over the top of both tanks - this is the expansion pipe should things overheat. If your larger tank is filling by itself and the ball valve is ok, then there is an overflow of water by the expansion pipe or the copper coil within the copper cylinder is leaking.
