Mend Volkswagen Type 1 Latch Open Drivers

dore lock or latch is broke? how to open?

I have a 1971 vw type 1, drivers door is shut and locked, I have the interior panel off and handle off door will not open seams like the lock is broke.
what do I do

if pulling on rods or flicking levers on mechanism not working, then the only thing to do is smash lock open with hammer and screwdriver until it opens, then replace locking mechanism.
