I had to empty the system and when i re filled the pilot light went out. I fumbled around a bit by pressing the over ride button 1 nad 2 together on the boiler reciever panel. I now have lost signal between the thermostat and the reciever. There is a red light permanently on which should flash. Do you know how i can re set this

Hi Ian, i have changed the batteries and still no joy, i have even unplugged the reciever from the main electric board in the boiler and still no joy. Do you think it will need a new reciever or is there a way to re-set

try changing the batteries in the remote then killing the power. failing that you'll need to check instructions for the particular thermostat you have.
