Your motor very probably drives the cutting blade through a belt and the belt may have snapped when you had your accident. The smoke you see might well be the remains of the belt burning up with friction from the drive gear on the motor shaft.
You may wish to get it repaired or failing that to summon up your courage and take it apart to see what's happened inside.
All this is conjecture - if it were my machine I would reach for my screwdriver so I might discover the true cause of the failure.
