If you swing the mixer up inside the hinge it swings on is a (big) screw that can be screwed in or out. It swings up with the mixer and is hidden when the mixer is swung down to do mixing.
Turning this screw out (counter clockwise) will cause the mixer to not swing down as far. If the beater is hitting the inside of the mixer, you may want to adjust it counterclockwise.
If the beater is hitting the outside (furthest from the body of the mixer), you may be able to turn this screw clockwise (turning it in) and thus allow the mixer to set a bit lower swinging the beater further inward.
This will help if the mixer is too low or high in the swing when in the down position. Hope this makes sense!
