Mend Gas Hose Carb

Gas Tank Hose Connection To Carb?

How is the hose connection from carb. to tank secured? All I can see is a hole with some type of fitting in it. Looks to be brass but can't tell.Is there a fitting that is supposed to stick in this hole for fuel pickup?Do I have to tear down althe way to get to this connection>
