hi, i have an indesit w123 washing machine which stays on the rinse cycle until stopped, you can reset it and put it on to spin but the clothes dont seem to be fully washed, i suspect it has something to do with the water heater, where is the water heater and how do i fix it if its malfunctioning

to test the selenoid check with a meter that there is a resistance across the two terminals but remove the wires first if it is open curcuit ie no reading you will need to replace the valve you did not say how many outlets there are one the cold water valve

The cold fill pipe fixes to the cold water inlet valve if you look inside the m/c you will then see where the valve selenoids are located

Check the cold water inlet valves it sounds very much like the one that supplys the water to the conditioner is not working.
The heater is not in use during the rinse cycle
