Hotpoint Aquarius 1200 Model WM34?

Is the machine working okay? If it is spinning and tumbling okay, have the brushes been put in the right way? Was the angle at the tip of the brushes in accordance with the direction of the turning armature.
Remove one and you will note whether it is wearing correctly or the original tip is now worn differently. If this is the case, just reverse the brushes into their opposite slots.
If the brushes are indeed in the wrong way, excessive wear may be the cause of the smell. Try that first....
