service machine will drain and spin but will not wash?

when the programme is selected the machine fills and just carries on filling but not agitating. however, it will rinse, drain and spin (when i select these programmes). it worked fine last weekend but i have had the builders in this week knocking a wall down in the kitchen and the washing machine has been moved about a bit.
