The lights flashing is probably the machine trying to tell you what it thinks is wrong.
If you do a search for your specific machine model and error codes, you may turn something up.

Bosch WFF1800 Error Codes: the indicator lamp flashes after a short break of 2 seconds, between 1 and 7 times. The number of flashes is the fault code.
1 Flash - Filling time exceeded - water inflow blocked, tap shut or inlet valve failed
2 Flashes - Heating time exceeded - Possible element failure
3 Flashes - Emptying time exceeded - Possible pump failed, blocked or jammed
4 Flashes - Motor not turning correctly - Possibly failed motor brushes
5 Flashes- Uncontrolled rise in motor speed - possibly speed pickup failed
6 Flashes - Coding Programmer Failure
7 Flashes - Short circuit CTN/cut
