i tried to run a wifi usb dongle but it told me i need a high speed usb 2.0 ! would it be better to use a pc card ?

To upgrade to USB 2.0 requires new hardware.
However I would not bother. In depends on what you are trying to achieve with USB 2.0. Unless you are streaming data, it is extremely unlikely that you would notice any difference.
