hi john, i own a 2000 vw polo 1.4 tdi and had similar problem with front brakes. managed to work the piston in and out by pumping brake pedal then forcing back in with a g clamp. (note) open brake fluid resevior lid before forcing back) did this a couple times and seemed to free up. hope this will help.

sorry 4 not getting back in touch sooner but computer access restricted.
Now to the problem.
Does both pistons in the front brake callipers move back and forward feely? If so.
also the calliper moves along slide bolts which have rubber seals on the calliper end, sometimes these seals split letting moisture in causing the calliper slide bolts to corrode not letting the calliper to slide free.
other than that i'm a bit puzzled with the fault.
Hope this helps you

VM nutter,

The brakes are sticking on both the front discs. The back work fine.

Appreciate your help

Front or back brakes sticking on? is it all wheels or just 1? your question is a bit vague.
