British Gas hight CO readings update?

hi - my original question is here ...

http://www.howtomendit.com/answers.php?id=247472

The update is, British Gas cannot provide me with CO readings. They told me previously that my CO reading have been high for the last few years. Now they say they don't have any records, because this year's readings have overwritten the old ones. Oh, and they still can't give me this year's figures.

They sent a guy to quote for new boiler who wanted to spend 2 hours surveying my house.

The Engineering Manager at BG confirmed my boiler is within current emmissions regs.. but might be at risk IN THE FUTURE... correct me if I'm wrong, but so might a brand new boiler - if it went wrong ?

cheers
Rod

Hi, the readings you have supplied are correct and well within limits. I suggest you contact BG and take this to a higher level and insist an engineer who knows what he is doing is sent along with the area manager (not just the local TSM). This sort of service should be sorted out before it gets out of hand.

hi all - Thanks for taking the time to comment on this, it's very helpful.

I have pushed BG for readings - the eng manager hasn't got back to me. However a girl at the call centre said she had figures for 2008 but was reluctant to give them to me as she isn't 'technically trained'. However with a bit of persuasion she gave me these figures for april 2008.

0.0019 at 13mb max and 0.0011 at 10.5mb.

Just to clarify - the bolier was turned off pending a visit from a BG boiler salesman. But the Eng Manager confirmed the boiler is within current regs. BG's view is it might exceed current regs in the future. BG coinfirm there's no CO in the house at all, only at the outside flue.

I have now re-instated the bolier myself.

You really need to kick Grittish Bas out !
I am the Managing Director of a Small S.E. Based maintenance Company covering both Domestic & Industrial installations gas & oil, we have in excess of 2000 appliances in our care, I can search the files for combustion data on any of our boilers going back to the formation of our company in 2004.

It can be useful to compare combustion data year on year, as a measure on the condition of the appliance.

I am appalled by your tale, but would hope that if your boiler was as bad as is being claimed, it would have been classified Immediately dangerous and turned off, the fact that the boiler has been left in use, would suggest that things arn't as bad as is being claimed

Wait a minute...

The Eng Mgr confirmed that your boiler is within current emissions regs. but is unable to reveal the actual figure?

Surely if he doesn't have the data about your boiler's emissions he is not in a position to confirm anything.

Result! as they say.

I suspect you have saved yourself quite a bit of money and may have possibly formed a revised opinion about the business ethics of British Gas.

Odd that - that they've lost the supporting evidence of their original claim...

Thanks very much for update - pleased for you...
