what is the positon of number one piston , is it the gearbox end

there are no marks you need to use timing pins. crank pin is through hole in engine into flywheel by dipstick. camshaft pin should be around 3 o clock position as should diesel pump pin. there is a certain way to refit timing belt so pump timing correct. if you dont know then probably best take it to garage.
