power but no picture?

i have a new tft lcd monitor which i bought in good faith ,
but , i have power light on but no picture is this a common fault or can u suggest some tips for locating the problem please , dont want to pay and it only be a fuse or bulb or somthing

Does Windows plug and play find the monitor? If not the monitor may be broken and not really a DIY project.


If it is attached to a laptop have you pressed the right switches to tell the laptop to display. e.g. IBM ThinkPad = Fn F7.
