Mend Weed Eater Feather Lite Primer Not Prime Gas

primer ball does not prime the gas?

I have a weed eater feather lite and I changed the primer ball but it does not prime the gas. When I try to prime it, it pushes air (bubbles) into the gas tank through the gas filter, and does not pull any gas into the carb. Any suggestions?
