Its a bit of a pain but you can access the burners from the side panel if you wish but for this i think you need to get in the top.I had to get to the right hand oven switch that houses the thermostat to check why the oven was not working. Turns out the neutral spadeconnector had burnt out so a quick snip and reconnect and all's well. However to get to this and the gas connections you have to get to the back of the cooker. Remove the screws holding the long back plate that runs along the top of the cooker, the section that is about 5 inches high and remove it. Then remove the screws that secure the metal strips along top of both sides. Next undo the screws( actually they are bolts)securing the SOLID METAL TOP WHERE THE BIG BURNER/GRIDDLE PLATE SITS on the left side of the cooker. This must be lifted away as it stops the right hand side burner section from being removed. Once the heavy metal plate is removed you can probably access the smallest gas burner from there.
It all sounds worse than it is, just make a few notes as you go along or take pictures on your phone or camera to remind you where the bits go back.
I would also suggest having a bucket/bowl of hot soapy water so you can clean all the nooks and crannies out when you do it, especially just down the back of the oven
